It’s a lot of work to clean your home, but specific tasks should be done every day to keep your home a safe place to live. It might sound crazy to clean every day, but spending a few minutes here and there to keep things in good shape will help weekly cleanings and deep cleanings feel more manageable. Here’s a look at some easy things you should do every day to keep the germs at bay.
Dishes
A clean home starts with a clean sink. There’s nothing worse than waking up to a sink filled with dirty dishes. So get in the habit of loading the dishwasher at night before you go to bed. Better yet, make it a goal never to leave a dish in the sink. Rinse and load dishes straight into the dishwasher throughout the day, so “doing the dishes” is something you do a few seconds at a time. Making this simple task a priority every day will help keep your entire home clean and tidy.
Wiping Down Countertops
Think about everything that goes on your kitchen and bathroom countertops—car keys, purses, cutting boards, grocery bags, hair products, and so much more. Then add in the crumbs from your lunch and dust that collects throughout the day, and your counters are a breeding ground for germs and bacteria.
As you clean your home every day, remember to wipe down all of your countertops with a soft cloth and gentle soap. Be sure to use a different cloth for your kitchen counters than your bathroom counters, so you don’t cross-contaminate. Or, if you choose to use disinfecting wipes, be sure to use enough wipes to get the job done effectively. At a minimum, use a different wipe for every surface.
Sweep or Vacuum Floors
If you eat or prepare food in your kitchen even once today, your floor will likely be littered with crumbs. Ignoring food particles on your floor is the fastest way to invite bugs and other unwanted guests into your home, so be sure to clean them up every day. A quick sweep or run of the vacuum will do the trick!
Wash Hand Towels
Your hand towels might not look dirty, but research shows that they are actually the leading cause of cross-contamination. The solution is easy – have plenty of towels on hand and change them out each day. A fresh towel will help keep germs from spreading around your kitchen and the rest of your home.
